ARE PRIVATE TENNIS LESSONS WORTH IT?
Private or personal tennis lessons are definitely a “must”.
To answer frankly, it is impossible to answer in general with yes or not.
Imagine that you decided to go to private tennis lessons with some new tennis teacher.
The reason you want to change your previous coach is probably that you are stuck
in a “plateau”. Let’s say that you have been paying for 1 hour of your private class $ 100.
If you are stuck for a longer time (weeks or months, quite often even years),
what are you going to do? For how long are you going to stay with someone who doesn’t know how to
get you out from the plateau? Also, it is not rare that students and teachers during the time become
friends, and then it is also awkward to pronounce: “Look, we should maybe split”.
Don’t you think that this is very often the case in our everyday life? Isn’t it almost always
difficult and painful to split up when a relationship is not working anymore?
So, you have heard of this new coach and you want to give it a shot.
What about the price? What if this new guy is charging 200 $ per hour? Double!
Mathematically the new coach should have a double-quality lesson, right? The new
coach should have a double-quality lesson, right?
You have to try, right?
How much time are you going to give him? These are all kind of simple questions
but actually it is not. You have to be fair, toward yourself and toward your new coach to
give a fair chance to “save you”.
Now imagine that this new teacher managed to fix your problem after only one week.
You are finally out of the “fog”.
How much does it worth to you?
Now we are coming to the real question – how much would you pay in order not to
suffer any more?
This is the reason why I always spend my time with a potential client trying to
explain that not a good tennis coach and a very good tennis coach cannot have similar prices.
Let’s say that this new coach has a 200 $ rate per hour. Remember, the “old” coach was 100 $ per hour.
With a previous coach, if you have two lessons, the question is: can he deliver the same quality that
your new guy can with one hour? Right, I also don’t think so.
So, is the old teacher too expensive or the new one is too cheap?
Obviously, this is also a subjective question, but if you love tennis and you are stuck for a longer time –
it is easy to question. You bet it is worth it!
Love, pleasure, and personal improvement should not have a price tag.
Or they should?
