WHO IS OR WHO ARE THE GOATS … GREATEST OF ALL TIMES

WHO IS OR WHO ARE THE TENNIS GOATS … GREATEST OF ALL TIMES?

In the last year or two,  I have met a huge number in various posts with the title who is,
or are, the GOATs.
Personally, the reason I am not fond of this topic is that I have a feeling
that this just brings quarrels among tennis lovers.

If we are just talking about “our” era, the answer is easy. Roger and Nadal.
Some tennis people would also include Novak with those two.

Of course, if we focus on those three guys only, it could and would be
kind of unfair, don’t you think?

There were many incredible players and I don’t know if I have enough ink in
my pen to write down the most of their names.

How can we not mention Borg, Laver, Sampras, and I will stop here because I
could go on and on this way.

Let’s return to the current trio. I love Roger’s style absolutely, that is
the most beautiful tennis plus I am a One-Handed Backhand guy. When Roger
hits Backhand it is so elegant that even people who don’t love tennis must love him
(but they probably do love ballet).

Roger also has the most of Grand Slams. Two more than Novak and one more than
Rafael. He is also the most popular
tennis player on the planet. Rafael is just next to him.

Does this mean that Roger should be the GOAT? Or Nadal who is like an
alien when he plays on a clay court.

Before we choose among these two most popular tennis players,
lets just mention couple of statistics that you most probably already know of:

– Novak has the most weeks in the 1st position in the history of tennis
– Novak has more wins with both “head to head”

Now when I think again, just because of those two facts, maybe Novak deserves to be equally taken for the GOAT competition. I don’t think that because I am biased
because Novak and I grew up in the same tennis club (Partizan, Belgrade),
I also don’t think that because we shared two same coaches (Jelena Genchich and Nikola Pilic).

Being The most popular doesn’t
mean being the greatest but it does mean – top three GOATs ever.

Numbers don’t lie.
